Foods That Fight The Cold And Flu

Chocolate: UK researchers recently found that an ingredient in chocolate may help a persistent cough. Theobromine, a key ingredient in chocolate, is nearly a third more effective in stopping persistant coughs than the leading medicine codeine.

Bananas: This delicious fruit can help with an upset stomach. Bananas stimulate the production of mucus in the stomach, protecting the stomach lining from the acid that's making you quesy. It's recommended, however, not to eat bananas when vomiting.

Chicken Noodle Soup: This age old remedy is tried and true. The steam from the soup helps unblock congestion while the chicken broth has anti-inflammatory properties great for the chest.

Orange Juice: While Vitamin C won't cure your cold, it can help shorten the length of your illness. Drinking fluids is vital when treating your cold or flu.

Garlic: Allicin, found in crushed garlic, has great cold-fighting properties. It's best to take garlic, either fresh or in pill form, when you first start to feel a cold come on since garlic works well to prevent a cold but won't cure one.

Eat smart and try these foods next time you feel yourself getting a cold or flu.
